Overview

A straight explanation of what we do, and why it matters

A new oil boiler is a fifteen-to-twenty-year decision. The difference between a good and a bad install shows up every winter, in the fuel bill, in the noise, in the breakdowns you do or don't have.

Back to home
What it is
Full oil boiler installation and replacement, Worcester Bosch Greenstar Danesmoor, Grant Vortex, Firebird Enviroblue, Warmflow, Trianco, Mistral and Boulter. Boiler swap or complete system upgrade including flue, oil line, filter, fire-valve, controls, expansion vessel and system flush.
Who it's for
Homeowners across Broad Town, Royal Wootton Bassett, Marlborough, Calne, Swindon and the wider rural Wiltshire area replacing an ageing oil boiler or moving away from a solid-fuel or electric system.
When you need it
When your existing boiler is over 12–15 years old, repair bills are stacking up, efficiency has dropped, parts are getting harder to source, or the boiler is genuinely too small for the home. Also the right moment if you're planning a kitchen or utility refit and can move the plant room in the same job.
Why professional matters
The right boiler, sized to the actual heat loss of your home, installed with clean pipework, a properly sized expansion vessel and a set of controls that make sense, that combination is what saves the fuel and prevents the breakdowns. Installation is where those savings are made or lost.
The cost of leaving it

What happens when it's ignored

Cheap installations look identical to good ones for exactly one heating season.

Risks & escalations
  • An oversized boiler short-cycles: switches on, satisfies the demand quickly, switches off, cools, switches on again. Every cycle wears components and wastes fuel.
  • An undersized boiler runs flat-out on the coldest days and never quite gets the house up to temperature. You'll pay more, be colder, and shorten its life.
  • Skipping a system flush installs a brand-new boiler onto twenty years' worth of magnetite sludge; the fastest way to void the warranty.
  • Poor flue placement causes plume nuisance, condensate freezing and, in worst cases, breach of Building Regulations Part J.
  • No filter, no fire-valve, wrong-sized expansion vessel; the small parts that separate a professional install from a rushed one, and the first things that fail.
Common mistakes
  • Choosing on price alone. The £400 saved on the install often costs £1,000 in the first three years.
  • Assuming a like-for-like swap is right. Heat loss should be recalculated whenever windows, insulation or extensions have changed.
  • Not installing a magnetic filter. Every reputable manufacturer now expects one; some warranties depend on it.
  • Leaving old controls on a new boiler. Modern condensing performance is unlocked by weather compensation and a decent programmer.

An install done properly, once, is the cheapest fifteen years of heating you'll ever buy.

Our process

A clear, five-step system, no surprises

  1. Step 1
    Free site survey

Boiler condition, heat-loss assessment, flue route, oil line, tank, controls, existing pipework and system state | full picture before we quote.

  2. Step 2
    Written quote & options

Two or three sensibly specified options, brand comparison, warranty terms and a fixed installation price. No sales upsell.

  3. Step 3
    System preparation

Power flush or chemical clean where needed, inhibitor, filter position and flow rates all designed in | not tacked on afterwards.

  4. Step 4
    Boiler installation

New boiler, flue, oil line, filter, fire-valve, expansion vessel and controls installed to manufacturer specification and Building Regs Part J.

  5. Step 5
    Commissioning & handover

Combustion analysis, flow and return temperatures, control set-up, walk-through with you, warranty registered and paperwork left on file.

The benefits

Concrete outcomes, not vague promises

Lower running costs

A correctly sized modern condensing oil boiler routinely delivers 90%+ seasonal efficiency | a meaningful drop against an old non-condensing unit.

Warranty fully valid

Installed to manufacturer specification with the required filter, inhibitor and commissioning paperwork on file.

Cleaner combustion

Modern low-NOx burners run cleaner and quieter | better for you, better for the boiler's working life.

Right-sized to your home

Heat-loss calculated properly. No more oversized short-cycling or undersized winter struggles.

Fewer breakdowns

New parts, clean water, correct pressures. Warranty years should be genuinely quiet years.

One engineer, start to finish

You deal directly with Ben | quote, install and after-sales are the same conversation, not three different departments.

In detail

The technical stuff, explained straight

Where the theory meets the van. Materials, methods, brand differences and the specific situations we deal with week in, week out across Wiltshire.

Which oil boiler suits your home

Worcester Bosch Greenstar Danesmoor: a strong all-rounder, particularly for standard-sized family homes with good access. Grant Vortex Pro: exceptional efficiency figures, quiet in operation, and the go-to for larger properties. Firebird Enviroblue: excellent value, well-supported parts network, popular for rural retrofit. Warmflow: British-built, tidy dimensions, well suited to utility-room installations. Regular vs Combi vs System, we'll walk you through which layout suits your hot-water demand, mains pressure and existing pipework, rather than picking one because it's easier to fit.

Internal vs external installations

External oil boilers keep noise, smell and combustion products entirely outside, a huge advantage for smaller homes without a purpose-built plant room. Internal installations are simpler to service and easier to insulate against frost. Both are equally valid; the right choice depends on where the tank is, where the flue can safely terminate and how much space you want back in the utility room.

Flueing, condensate and Part J compliance

Building Regulations Part J governs the safe combustion, flueing and heat-producing appliance installation of oil boilers. Flue termination distances to windows, doors, gutters, boundaries and neighbouring properties are non-negotiable. Condensate has to run to a suitable drain with the correct fall and, ideally, be routed internally to prevent freezing. Every install we do is designed to Part J and, where notification is required, notified through the OFTEC competent-person scheme.

Oil tank considerations

A boiler is only as good as the fuel supply. We'll assess tank age, condition, bunding, distance from windows and fire-valve compliance during the survey. If the tank needs replacing or relocating we can quote it in the same package (see the Oil Boiler Servicing and General Plumbing pages). Modern bunded plastic tanks are safer, easier to inspect and often cheaper than repairing an ageing single-skin steel tank.

Controls, filters and system water

Every installation includes a programmable room thermostat as standard, TRVs where sensible, a magnetic system filter to protect the new heat exchanger, and fresh inhibitor dosed to the correct concentration. Where the existing system is heavily sludged we'll recommend a power flush before the new boiler goes on, cheaper than watching a warranty claim get rejected two winters later.
